The final round of The Roy Ling Mutual Grimsby Snooker Doubles took place this week and confirmed that Clee Cons B are the Champions of the Premier Section and Hainton A will collect the runner’s up trophy. Ironically, the two teams played each other at Heneage Road and the top team won by the narrow margin of five frames to three. Craig Waddingham and Dave Darwent took the opening two frames for the Cons before Chris Taylor and Shane Newbold levelled things up. Mick Bridge and Lee Pawson made it 4-2 to the visitors and the score was complete when Hainton’s Dave Bartlett and Dave Cox shared with Brian Bridge and Mark Goss.
At the other end of the table, A.M.S. (UK) needed to win 8-0 at Clee Cons A to have a chance of survival. They could only manage a 4-4 draw however as Jason Reynolds and Craig Thomas won both their frames for the home team and Mick Springall, Mick Goodwin, Richard Gough and Rob Willerton shared with Darren Potter, Simon Appleton, Rick Oaks and John Waller. The visitors other points came from Phil Spillman and Gordon Abernethy.
West End A ensured top league snooker for another season when winning three frames at home against Clee Home Guard. Cliff Goldsack and Andrew Warner won the opening two frames for them only to see Ian Sadler and Steve Bloomfield make it all square. Steve Neul and Dave Webster shared with Mark Stevens and John Hughes before a last board 2-0 from Guardsmen Keith Southwell and Craig Taylor gave the visitors their victory.
The top two teams in Section A clashed at Cromwell Road and it was the champions who finished in style with a 5-3 victory against their closest rivals. Nige Emmerson, Dan Mumby, Dave Stewart and Steve Auckland were their 2-0 winners with Steve Donner and Simon Redgraves winning a single against Dennis Rodgers and Roy Wilson Snr. Cromwell’s 2-0 winners were Mick Jones and Les Pigg.
An opening 2-0 from Anthony Jagger and Paul Leggett was cancelled out with a 2-0 from John Potterton and Myles Kennan as Blossom Way B drew 4-4 at Birds Eye.
Stamford Homes B drew 4-4 at home against relegated Healing Legion A when Chris Madsen and Lee Leggett won both their frames in reply to a 2-0 from visitors Andy Nutting and Mike Crooks. The remaining players all won and lost a frame.
Healing Legion B were 3-1 up at home against Stamford Homes A after Drew Winship and Chris Jennings won 2-0 and Craig Brocklebank and Dave Lainchbury shared with John Dannatt and Bill Richardson. The visitors made it four apiece when Steve and John Baker won 2-0 and Chris and Andrew Brown shared with Graham Young and Baz Pearce.
Cue World, the champions of Section B finished of their season with a 5-3 home win against Clee Bowls B. Cameron Dunlop, Adam Wherrett, Dave Dobbs and George Marshall were their 2-0 winners with Chris Holgeth and Neil Wherrett sharing with Dave Walton and Nigel Francis. The Bowlers other frames came from Mike Barrett and Mick Parker.
West End B finish in second spot although we don’t have any details of this week’s match at Healing Mens.
Carr Lane C finished on a high with a 6-2 home win against Standard A. After the opening four frames were shared, it was Dave and Pete Cullum, and Neil Batts and Colin Grey who won the last four frames for them.
Bottom team Standard C shared the spoils with Hainton B when Jim Litchfield, Terry Burman, Ray Revell, Art McDougall, Dave Elford, Daz Roche, Dave Telfer and Daz Burrows all won a frame against Dave Moody, Keith Atmore, Ken Ward, Andy McArthur, Mick Dobson, Bill Rennie, Dave Boyington and Dave Tanner.
